2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Send account-related communications (confirmation emails, security alerts).
- Send push notifications for expiring items and community activity (if enabled).
- Generate AI-powered recipe suggestions and meal plans based on your stored items and preferences.
- Facilitate food sharing between friends through the community features.
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Generate a stateless preparedness-plan preview and, with separate consent, learn from de-identified planner responses.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data in the following cases:
- With your friends: When you use community sharing features, friends can see items you list, your name, and chat messages.
- Service providers: We use third-party services for hosting, email delivery, image storage, and AI features. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by contractual obligations to protect your data.
- Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of EverShelf or its users.
4. AI Features
EverShelf uses artificial intelligence to provide recipe suggestions, meal plan generation, and food item detection from photos. When you use these features:
- Before EverShelf sends your selected content to OpenAI or Google Gemini, the app identifies the providers and data involved and asks for your permission. Choosing “Continue Without AI” cancels that request, and you can keep using non-AI features.
- You can withdraw that permission at any time from Profile → Profile tab → AI data processing. EverShelf will ask again before a later AI request.
- Your food data and preferences may be sent to OpenAI or Google Gemini to generate suggestions.
- Photos and storage-audit evidence selected for analysis may be processed by Cloudinary, OpenAI, or Google Gemini according to their data-processing terms.
- Community message text may be sent to OpenAI for automated safety screening before it is posted. Messages flagged as potentially objectionable are not posted.
- AI-generated content is for convenience only and should not be relied upon for dietary or medical decisions.
5. Subscriptions and Payment Data
EverShelf offers auto-renewable Premium subscriptions processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Regarding payment data:
- We do not directly collect or store your credit card or payment information. All payment processing is handled by Apple or Google.
- We use RevenueCat as a subscription management platform to verify purchase status and manage entitlements. RevenueCat receives your EverShelf account or device-account identifier and purchase status from the app stores, so this information is linked to your EverShelf account.
- We store your subscription tier, billing period, purchase status, expiration date, and renewal status on our servers to verify and provide Premium access.
- For more information about how RevenueCat handles data, see their privacy policy.
6. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by Render.
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text.
- API communication is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) with expiration.
- Application request logging omits URL query strings and remote addresses; infrastructure providers may retain limited network and operational logs under their security and reliability practices.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no system is completely secure. You use the Service at your own risk.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
- Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. Account deletion removes EverShelf-controlled account data, uploaded media, food storage items, recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, friend connections, chat messages, and the associated RevenueCat customer profile.
- If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
- Anonymized or aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.
- Unfinished website planner answers remain in your browser until you reset or submit the planner; they are not synced to your app account.
- If you choose the official hazard-map feature, coordinates are used transiently in your browser only to choose a FEMA or state map link and are not retained in the local planner draft.
- If you separately consent to product research, the research copy has no name, email, IP address, advertising identifier, or link to your waitlist lead. Raw research responses expire after 90 days, after which only aggregate statistics are retained.
- Raw food-avoidance text is used to generate your requested plan but is not retained in waitlist or research records. Research records contain only broad avoidance categories and a count.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for data processing where consent is the legal basis.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@joshumi.com.
9. Children's Privacy
EverShelf is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Push Notifications
EverShelf may send push notifications for expiring food items, community activity, and other updates. You can manage notification preferences in the app's Profile settings or through your device settings at any time.
11. Website Planner, Research, and Email Choices
- All personalization questions are optional. Skipped questions use starter defaults only to calculate the preview.
- Joining fulfillment early access requires consent to receive the plan and occasional fulfillment updates. Every marketing email provides an unsubscribe link.
- Product-research consent is separate and optional. Refusing it does not prevent you from joining the waitlist or viewing your plan.
- If you consent to research, your confirmation email includes a private one-click link that deletes that de-identified response. You may also unsubscribe or request deletion of your identifiable waitlist record by contacting support@joshumi.com.
For additional details about health-adjacent planner answers, see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via the app or email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact Us
